Communicative learning methodology: Conversation partner program

Here at Abanico Spanish language school, one of our principal academic objectives in every skill is to have the students using language as a living, breathing, authentic tool.

Our approach to this objective in the Oral Skills program embodies a very simple philosophy, based upon communicative principles of language learning and teaching: students learn best by doing. To this end, the entire spectrum of our Oral Skills program, from beginning to high advanced, incorporates many, many different opportunities for students to speak and listen to one another and to use the language that they are exposed to on a regular basis.

For this reason, we have organized a Conversation Partner Program for the Spanish learner.

The Conversation Partner Program allows the students the opportunity to practice speaking Spanish individually with a native speaker of Spanish. The conversation is either learning about another language or culture.

The Spanish speaker is then matched up with a student from Abanico who is from the culture they are interested in, or who shares similar interests.

Your exchange friend, in addition, will introduce you to Spain's true way of living.

After the Abanico student and the Spanish speaker are introduced, they arrange a time and place to meet on a weekly basis. These weekly meetings often evolve into friendships.

The one-on-one contact and Spanish use provided by the Conversation Partner Program can be re-created in other communicative situations.
